John Craig Ashman, 102, of Amelia, a retired dairy farmer, died June 6, 2012 in Amelia. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary W. Ashman, daughter, Ruby A. Norman and a great granddaughter Monica M. Ashman. He is survived by a daughter Gail A. Harris and her husband Ron of Buena Vista; a son Eddie Ashman and his wife Ann of Amelia; sisters, Rachel Bowlin of Amelia and Lillie Byrd of Richmond; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 10 great, great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Grub Hill Episcopal Church, Amelia with interment in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, Amelia. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Grub Hill Episcopal Church Cemetery Fund, 12690 N. Lodore Road, Amelia, VA 23002 or favorite charity.
