AUGUST MAHNKE VET OF LAKES, PASSES AWAY

August Mahnke, life long resident of Manitowoc and well known on the great lakes, where he sailed for many years, was taken this morning at the home at 1305 South Eighth street after a short illness.

Mr. Mahnke retired from the lake following activities several years ago and since has been an attendant of the Tenth street river crossing in the city. For many years he sailed on Pere Marquette and Ann Arbor carferries.

Born in Manitowoc, June 12, 1858 Mr. Mahnke was 69 years old at the time of death. He was married to Miss Emma Ruebe February 20, 1889, who survives.

Three daughters, Mrs. Edwin Lutzke and Mrs. Frank Mrotek of this city, and Mrs. William Grapentine, of Liberty, remain as do two sons, Richard of Detroit, Mich., and Arnold of this city. Four brothers, John and Henry of this city and Louis of Two Rivers and Charles of Sioux City, In., also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 from the family home and at 2 from the German Evangelical church, the Rev. Machmiller officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen.
