Polish Army General. He defended Warsaw during World War II. He fought in the First World War, was promoted to Brigadier General in 1919, and was considered a brilliant cavalry commander in the Polish-Russian war of 1919 to 1920. In 1928 he became a Major General and in 1939 he was commander of Army Group Lodz and later led the defense of Warsaw for which he is considered a hero by its citizens.
