-- ROCK HILL - Mrs. Melina Boatwright Hawkins, 50, of Rock Hill, S.C., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 8, 2012, at CMC, Charlotte, N.C.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Eastside Baptist Church, Rock Hill, with the Rev. Chase Catledge officiating and Pastor Wayne Smith assisting. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, Rock Hill.

Born in Rock Hill, S.C., on Jan. 30, 1962, Melina was the daughter of Billy and Linda Boatwright. She was a graduate of Rock Hill High School in 1980, and graduated from Winthrop University in 1984, with a major in Music Education. She taught music at Trinity Christian School, Rawlinson Road Middle School, and Blessed Hope Baptist School. She was the minister of music at Eastside Baptist Church, taught piano and volunteered at Yorktowne Village Nursing Home. Music was her passion and she inspired many others through her musical career. Throughout her journey in life, she exemplified her love and strong faith in God. She was truly treasured and will be forever missed.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, James (Andy) Hawkins of Rock Hill; son, John Andrew Hawkins, and daughter, Brittani Jenae Hawkins, both of the home; father, Billy W. Boatwright Sr.; mother, Linda Purdue Boatwright; brother, Billy W. Boatwright Jr., and wife, Hope Smith Boatwright; sister, Selina Gregory Kedar and husband, Dr. Raj H. Kedar; father-in-law, Jimmy Hawkins and step-mother-in-law, Betty Hawkins; and nieces and nephews, Danielle and Billy Boatwright, Zara, Alex, and Nicolas Kedar.

She was predeceased by mother-in law, Virginia Hawkins.
