He was born April 17, 1934 in Farmington IL the son of Ora James and Leota Marie Lumberry Coon. He married Marjorie V. Davis on August 2, 1954 in Burlington IA. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons Daniel D. (wife Vickie) Coon of Galesburg IL and Gil W. (wife Pamela) Coon of Knoxville IL, two daughters Debra S. Wilson of Galesburg IL and Pamela K. (husband Glen) Jackson of Galesburg IL, two brothers James Coon of Canton IL and Ralph Coon of Galesburg IL, and eight grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
He worked in the Print Shop of St. Mary Medical Center for 23 years retiring in 1996. He was Employee of the Year in 1985. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was very active within the church. He was a former member of the Church Men's Bowling Leagues. After his retirement he was a volunteer for OSF St. Mary Hospital in Galesburg, IL. He has lived in Galesburg since 1959.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 PM Monday (10-18-04) at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Daniel Siems will officiate. Visitation will be 2:00 – 4:00 PM Sunday (10-17-04) at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Family.
