Thomas ("Tommie") Jensen was a single man who lived alone in the Siuslaw region for over thirty years.

Jensen was born 10 April 1847 in Denmark. According to census records he came to the United States about 1865 and was a naturalized citizen. About 1890 he moved to western Lane County, settling on a homestead between South Slough and Woahink Lake. Later he sold that land and purchased a few acres near the lake where he spent the remainder of his life. He died on January 30, 1920, reportedly of gastroenteritis.

His obituary reported:

"Mr. Jensen lived alone and but little is known of any relatives. Shortly before his death he said he had a wife and family in Kansas but did not tell the place where they live. Some reports say he had a sister at Biggs, California."(1)

The Siuslaw Pioneer Museum received a query from someone researching a Thomas Jensen in their family and felt this Jensen may be one and the same. The other Jensen was said to have been born on 15 April 1837 or 1847 in Denmark and was married to Mary C. Anderson on 2 April 1865. Mary was born in Germany and died there on 31 January 1885. They had six children, all born in Germany: Marie, Nis, Katherina Frederica, Peter, Margaret, and Dora (or Dodie). Whether this is the same Jensen as the one buried in the Glenada Cemetery is unconfirmed.

Jensen's probate record made mention of the uncertainty of surviving relatives:

"The plaintiff, the State of Oregon by C. N. Johnston, District Attorney in and for Lane County, Oregon having on the 29th day of March, 1922 filed a petition herein setting forth that the said deceased died in Lane County, Oregon and that his estate was in process of administration and further setting forth that it is rumored that the said deceased left a daughter residing some place in the State of Missouri but that her name, age or particular place of residence is unknown and also that there were rumors to the effect that the deceased left relatives in Denmark but that upon diligent search and inquiry by the administrator of said estate he was unable to ascertain the names and residences of any heirs, next of kin, relatives of said deceased or the names and places of residence of any person or persons entitled to distribution of said estate..."(2)

homas Jensen is buried in the western section of the cemetery, marked by a large tombstone with his birth and death dates.
