Mrs. Doris Ezzell Thornton, 76, 470 Morgan Valley Road, Rockmart, died Sunday, July 8, 2001 in a Rome Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in Rockmart on April 5, 1925, a daughter of Homer L. Ezzell and Bessie Catherine Biggers Ezzell. Mrs. Thornton had lived her entire life in Rockmart where she was a member of the Second Baptist Church and was a former longtime employee of the Rockmart Bank. She was also a former Gray Lady for the Red Cross. She was preceded in death by parents, six brothers, J.C. Ezzell, Gene Ezzell, Hank Ezzell, Edwin Ezzell, Matt Ezzell, and Billy Ezzell; two sisers, Neil Orebaugh and Alice McDonald. Survivors include husband, William C. "Bill) Thornton of Rockmart to whom she was married on Sept. 9, 1962; one sister, Mrs. Anne Moody of Marietta, a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10 in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Minister Alvis Miller officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers included: Hank Ezzell, Tony Ezzell, Jerry Ezzell, Terry Ezzell, Jim Ezzell, Alan Ezzell and Billy Wills. The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
