John Golladay, one of Beloit's well known residents since 1918, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 1938 at 11 o'clock after being in failing health for the past year and bedfast for 19 days.
John Golladay was born to Jake and Rebecca Golladay at Staunton, Virginia, on November 06, 1851, being at the time of his death aged 86 years, 9 months and 25 days. After a residence in the west, where he was engaged in furnishing fresh meat to the mines he came to Kansas in 1898 and moved into Beloit in 1918, which had since been his home.
He is survived by three brothers and one sister, namely; George Golladay, Fallbrook, California; Henry Golladay, Beloit; Charley Golladay, Glen Elder; and Mrs. Belle Lewis, Ocelia, Iowa.
John Golladay was a man who carried the respect of all who knew him. Friendly, but reticent in his manners. It was seldom he could be persuaded to recount his own adventurers, which were many. He was a lover of the outdoors and spent much time in fishing. Kindly and quiet, there was a depth to his nature that commanded admiration.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the McDonald Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. A. R. Bemis. Pall bearers were: Walter Golladay, Elmer Covert, Floyd Golladay, Elmer Golladay, Lloyd Golladay and George Golladay.
John was the 1st child, of 9, born to parents Jacob & Rebecca (Fulwider) Golladay. His younger brothers, James Franklin & Phoebe (Wry) Golladay, and Henry & Mary (Falke) Golladay, along with numerous nieces and nephews, are buried nearby.
