After all the other family members had died or moved out of the family home, Lucy continued to live in the house. In the period from 1911-1919, she rented 2 rooms to the widow Lela Enloe Moore and her 4 children. One of these children, Daniel Killian Moore, became the 66th Governor of NC (1965-1969).

Due to Miss Lucy's frugality, or perhaps lack of funds, the house remained as it was originally built. She did not succumb to modern changes until 1968, when at the age of 78, she had central heat installed!

Stories about Miss Lucy abound, particularly about her knack for eliciting help with the spring cleaning from the young people in the area. In later years, local residents enjoyed her witch's antics at Halloween!
