Wendell "Wendy" Mathews, 74, of Quaker Drive, Elizabeth City, NC left us peacefully Tuesday, July 9, 2012 at his residence. Born in Perquimans County, NC, he was the son of the late Wendell Hobbs and Addie Mae Mathews and was the husband of Sydney Ann Blanchard Mathews of the home.

In addition to his devoted wife he is survived by two daughters, Pamela Mathews of Winterville, NC, and Lisa M. Bamonte and husband Scott of Chesapeake, VA; three sons, Randal G. Mathews and wife Marlene of Ocracoke, NC, Rodney K. Mathews of Nags Head, and J. Wayne Mathews and wife Karen of Elizabeth City, NC; and three grandchildren, Matt Pritchard, Taylor Bamonte, and Claire Bamonte. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald G. Mathews. The family expresses special thanks to his caregivers, Carol Williams, Louise Privott, Robin Reed, Tanya Welch, Shareka Alexander, Elaine Hills, and Albemarle Home Care & Hospice for their loving care and support to "Mr. Wendy" and his family.
