Caroline Chase Rifenburg was born December 27, 1836 to Stephen and Lucretia Miller Chase. In 1850 the family was living in New Belin, Waukesha, Wisconsin. Her father Stephen was the son of Joseph Chase, a Revolutionary War veteran, and Sarah Dolittle. Caroline married James Benjamin Wilson in 1853 in Milwaukee, WI. James and Caroline were in Green Lake county, WI., by 1855. They had the following children:

Elinore Adelia, married James N. Wilson, and later Ara Camfield
Louisa Emilie, adopted by David and Pricilla Zehner, married Henry Heuer
Charles B., adopted by Alvin and Betsey Owens, married Mary Walters

Caroline was widowed in 1859 and took her children to Dale and Hortonia, in Outagamie County, WI. She married John L Rifenburg in 1865. He was a Civil War Veteran. They had the following Children:

Merty Ellen* (Minnie), married Delos Payne
Etta Viola, married Ezra Gilbert
Edgar Riley, died young, probably the same person as Edwin born and died 1772 in MN.
Frank Lewis, married May Strait

In 1900, Caroline's husband John was returning from the barn, when he suffered a seizure. The lamp he was carrying broke, and burned him severely, causing his death. Caroline next ran a Hotel with her son Frank, and then lived with family members until her death in 1919 at Eagle Point, WI.

* Born about four months after John and Caroline married, was said to have been "found on the doorstep", and raised by John and Caroline. Probably not the biological daughter of John, as he did not mention her in his will. Unknown if the biological daughter of Caroline. Minnie and her husband Delos Payne have many descendants, but I have not found any DNA matches to descendants of Caroline so far (2021).
