Marietta is the daughter of William Elexander Sheppard (24957578) and Nancy Dees Sheppard (122344348). Her mother died when she was 3 and her father remarried and moved his family to Navarro County Texas in 1871. She did not make the trip and lived her entire life in Covington, MS. She met Frank Flynt in late 1877 and they were married in 1878 in Mt Olive, MS. Together they had 11 known children.
