Virginia Harper
Virginia B. Smith Harper, 84, of Fairmont, formerly of Shinnston, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Friday (Sept. 22, 2006) at the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
She was born Nov. 23, 1921, in Belington, a daughter of the late Albert Morgan Smith and Sara Susan Cutlip Smith.
Mrs. Harper was preceded in death by her husband, Truent Lewis Harper, who died in October 1987.
She is survived by two daughters, Trudy Lee McVicker of Burlington, N.C., and Bernice Bowman of Worthington; two granddaughters, Bronya Kay Tucker of Fairmont, and Dana Lee Asher of Burlington, N.C.; one grandson, Richard L. Composky of Worthington; two great-grandchildren, Tiona Kapnick and Harley Whitelock; one great-great-grandchild, Chloe Nevaeh Whitelock; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Harper was preceded in death by two infant sons, Truent Lewis Harper Jr. and Rex Randolph Harper; as well as 13 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Harper was a member of the Coon's Run Baptist Church.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jerome Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
