Joseph R. Gries, 33, of 9912 Point Creek Road, Newton, WI., died Tuesday afternoon, November 7, 1989 at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born October 3, 1956 at Sheboygan, son of the late Joseph and Mary Ann Bogenschuetz Gries. He attended St. Isidore Catholic School, in Osman and was a 1975 graduate of Kiel High School.
On October 21, 1978 he married Dianna Meyer at St. Clement's Catholic Church, in Sheboygan. He farmed on the family homestead in the Town of Centerville all of his life. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Osman, the Good fellowship Bean Bag League and Catholic Knights. He was very active in Softball Leagues in the area. He was a Kiel FFA Alumni and a member of the Manitowoc Holstein Association.
Survivors include his wife, Dianna; one son, Joseph Jr.; two daughters, Angela and Pamela, all at home; mother and father-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Meyer, Valders; one brother, Robert (Linda) Gries, Sheboygan; five sisters, Diane (Terry) Kress, Kiel; Joanne (James) Meves, Sheboygan; Beatrice (Wally) Meyer, School Hill; Geraldine (Larry) Brendel, Howards Grove; Karen (David) Salm, Cleveland; 21 nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 1989 at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Osman, with the Rev. Lee Kahrs, pastor, officiating. The mass will be preceded by brief family rites at 9:45 a.m. at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. Burial will be in Knollwood Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Friends may call at Meiselwitz Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and Friday, from 8 a.m. until the time of services. A wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
