John Byers has 2 gravestones here with the same data.

The first is an elevated large flat double, shared gravestone. John is on the right side and James Byers is on the left. The close up of John's stone says:

In Memory of
JOHN BYERS
who departed this life
January the 9th 1797
in the 46th year of his age

In the Early History of Old Hanover Church, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, by Rev. Thomas H. Robinson, D.D., published in 1878 by the Historical Society of Dauphin County, page 33, says John Byers, born 1751, died 12 Jan 1797.

The stone cleary says the "9th," not the 12th. The first two letters of the month are hard to read, but I believe it is January. Plus Rev. Robinson, above believed it was January.

James is on the left side of the large flat double stone. John and James both served in the American Revolutionary war. I assume they may be brothers since they are buried side by side.

The second gravestone is freestanding. It says:

In memory of
John Byers who depar-
ted this life January
9, 1797 in the 46
year of his age
