Thelma Simon, 87, of Terre Haute died on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 in Baptist Healthcenter in Little Rock, Ark.

She was a retired glass inspector with Midland Glass Company, whose employees were like family to her. During World War II, she was a certified arc welder.

She was born Oct. 26, 1919 in Terre Haute to James Wilkey and Lillie Loney Wilkey. Her husband, Thomas H. Simon Sr., preceded her in death in 1989. She is survived by her son, Michael Simon and his fiancee Andrea of Paris, Ill.; two daughters, Joyce Laine of Little Rock, and Sharon Carpenter and her husband Kirby of Edgewater, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Dee Dee Simon of Belgrade, Mont.; seven grandsons, Edward Ice and his wife Linda of Terre Haute, Jeffrey Ice and his wife Kathy of Memphis, Tenn., Jon Fougerousse of Little Rock, Spc. Frank Fiorito of Baumholder, Germany, Thomas Simon and his wife Janet of Terre Haute, E5 Bradley Simon and his wife Laura of Marshall, Ill., and Matthew Simon and his wife Heather of Lafayette; one granddaughter, Jodi Crowe and her husband Scott of Terre Haute; 14 great-grandchildren, Nicole, Logan, Noah, Justin, Taylor, Aiden, Madison, Ryan, Chelsea, Zachery, Jacob, Katie, Dustin and Jeremy; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas H. Simon Jr., in 2005.

She was a lifelong resident of Terre Haute. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and her grandchildren. She was always right, and when she wasn't she'd box you on the ears.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rick Ginther officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
