Funeral services for Karl W. Bilau, 79, of 1141 Hus Drive, Watertown, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Golden Lake, with Rev. John A Schmidt and Rev. Daniel G. Gartzke officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Golden Lake.
Friends may call at Hafemeister Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, until 10 a.m. Sunday and also at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials, if desired, may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church or the charity of one's choice.
He was born March 15, 1913 in the town of Concord, the son of Otto and Ida Zahn Bilau. On Nov. 22, 1941 he married Eunice Gartzke at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Concord. He spent the majority of his life in the Sullivan-Dousman area and the last five years in Oconomowoc and Watertown.
He owned and operated Karl's Meat Market TAvern in the villiage of Sullivan. Upson selling his business he was employed part time at Schroedl's Country Market in Jefferson. While in Sullivan area, he served on villiage board and the local fire department, of which he had been fire chief. He was also a player and later manager of the originial Farmers State Bank for 30 years. He was a lifelong member of St. JOhn's Lutheran Church, Golden LaKe, and served on the church council for 13 years. He was the first vice president of the church, a church elder and a member of the building committee.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Ann (Charles) HOlzhueter of Sullivan; on son, Lance (Sue) of Jefferson; three grandsons; two sisters, Clara Zuelke and Anita Friesch, both of Sullivan; one brother, Herman (Mae) of Watertown; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Hoffman and Lydia Zahn; and two brothers, Roy Wenzel and Walter Bilau.
