"Gattshall Family Holds Big Reunion -
Members of Family Assemble After Long Separation. -
The Descendants of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Gattshall, Former Residents of Richland Township - An Entire Week Is Given to Reunion.
The children of Philip and Maria Barry-Gattshall, after a separation of nearly seventeen years, held a reunion at the home of J.B. Gattshall, at Goshen, Indiana, during the past week. The family was reared on what, in the days of long ago, was known as "Pucker Street," in Richland township, three and a half miles west of Cardington.
The family consisted of Rachael Kaelbar, now a resident of Marion; J.B. Gattshall, at whose home the reunion took place at Goshen; J.W. Gatshall, who resides at Goodland, Kansas, and Marinda Curren, a resident of Westfield township, Morrow county.
The last time the members of the family were all together was on the occasion of the funeral of the mother which took place at Shawtown, Fairview, in 1897. Since that time, J.W. Gattshall, the third member of the family, has lived in Kansas, where he has been engaged in the cattle and ranching business, and where he has raised a family of eight children. J.B. Gattshall has lived in Indiana for the past thirty-four years where he is engaged in the practice of law. Mrs. Kaelbar has lived in Marion county a number of years, and Mrs. Curren has always resided in this county.
Just before the holidays, J.W. Gattshall conceived the idea of paying a visit back to his old home. The others then planned a surprise for their brother in Goshen. The surprise was complete, and for nearly a week the family held one continuous levy at the home of the brother.
Aside from these immediate descendants of the family, there were present, David Curren, husband of Marinda Curren; August Kellemeyer, of St. Marys; Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Kaelbar, of Milford, Indiana, a son of Mrs. Kaelbar; E.L. Gattshall, of Naperville, Illinois, son of J.W. Gattshall; R.M. Gattshall, son of J.B. Gattshall, of Chicago, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank D Barry, cousins of the family, who live at Benton, Indiana.
It was a joyful meeting. They parted in the halcyon days of youth and met again in mature age. The time was well occupied in reminiscence and pleasure."
