He served as a private in Captain Elihu Millikan's Company, 3rd Regiment (Johnson's), East Tenn Militia. His service ended May 3, 1815. (per Adjutant General of the Army) Benjamin and Martha Atchley were members of Providence Baptist Church, located near their home.
Ben applied for and was granted a pension for his service in 1814-1815. His wife Martha was granted a widow's pension after Ben's death in 1875.
