Velva Dishmon Rakes, 82, of Stuart, died July 17, 2012, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C. She was born in Danville on Sept. 18, 1929, to Daniel Witcher Dishmon and Susan Etta Rakes Dishmon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Rakes; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Betty Southard.
She was a member of Stuart Baptist Church and she was retired from United Elastic Corporation.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Susan Lust and Teresa Woods; a son, Thomas J. Rakes; five grandchilren.
Burial will be in Patrick Memorial Gardens.
