Nathaniel built a smelting furnace in 1843 that supplied iron for the Confederacy during the Civil War years. It is now a part of the Moratock Park along the Dan River near Danbury.
The Moody Inn at Danbury was built about 1854 by Nathaniel and his brother, Alexander Moody. Over the years it was a popular stop for travelers as well as those who came to the county seat to do business with the court. It was headquarters for Stoneman's Raiders in April, 1865.
