Freda Altis 68, homemaker and a resident of ruarl Eureka, died at her home Wednesday, May 23, 1990. She was born near Cabool, Mo., February 4, 1922, the daughter of Lon and Lou House Whitson. She attended school in Hamilton Creek and graduated from Cabool High School.
On October 23 1937, she was married to Arthur Altis in Houston, Mo. They worked the sawmills in Missouri and in 1954 came to the Fonovay Community, making their home there since then. Freda enjoyed bowling, sewing and the friendship of the Tonovay Ladies Club.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur of the home, nine sons, Ernest, Lawrence, John, Roger, Alan, all of Eureka, James, Severy, Arthur, Emporia, Terry, Wichita, a nephew Richard who was raided as a son, St. Louis, Mo.; eight daughters, Betty Mann, Mary Gulick, Shirley Drake and Karen Boles, all of Eureka, Ruth Knight, Severy, Caroline Gum and Linda Graham, both of Red Rock, Okla.; 47 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; a brother, Ed Whitson, Kansas City; two sisters, Jerry Smith, Marshall, Mo., and La Verne Curtner, Mountain Grove, Mo.
She was preced in death by her parents, a son Bobby, three sisters, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at the Campbell Funeral Home at 2 p.m., Friday, May 25, 1990 with Rev. Carl Ellis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
Elizabeth Jones was the organist with Martha Francis Singing, "Amazing Grace", and "Let The Circle Not Be Broken."
Casket bearers were all grandsons, Louis Mann, Jr., Billy Gulick, Ron Knight, Dewane Gum, Danny and Larry Altis.
Interment was in South Lawn Cemetery, Severy.
Memorials hasve been established in her name with the American Heart Associaton and the American Diabetes Association.
