Jesse Davis, was born near Colesburg on December 22, 1897,to Thomas and Etta Knickerbocker Davis.
He was killed in the Battle of Verdun in France on October 7, 1918.
Nov. 21, 1918 NEWS:
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Davis received word that their son Jesse has made the supreme sacrifice for his country. The sad news came Thursday, stating that the young man had been killed in action on October 7, 1918. He enlisted in the early part of the war, and had been overseas since. The flags were placed at half mast in his honor, and now our sacrifice flag has three gold stars.
Sept. 15, 1921 NEWS:
The body of Jesse Davis, a patriotic Colesburg boy, who walked to Manchester to enlist at the time he entered the service, and who was killed in action in France, was brought to his boyhood home for burial at Oak Hill cemetery.
