Orval R. Kendall, 75, of Elyria died Wednesday at Center Ridge Nursing Home, North Ridgeville, after a long illness.

Born in Braxton County, W.Va., he had lived in the Grafton and Elyria areas since 1955.

A welder, he worked at Abex Electroalloys, Elyria, for 29 year retiring in 1983.

During World War II, he served with the Army in the Pacific Theater and was a member of the Hinkson-Hysell VFW Post 3341 of Grafton.

He enjoyed gardening and working on cars.

Survivors include his wife, Wanita M.; daughters, Betsy Anderson of Forest Glade, Tenn., Joyce Wolfe of Lorain and Kathy Kimble of Elyria; son, Joseph of Elyria; nine grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and sisters,
Jessie Clark of Ravenna and Odrie Hazlett of West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by stepson, Jerome Phillips; brothers Glenn, Norman and Jerry, and sisters Gladys Goodrich, Beatrice Mayfield and Flossie Church.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria, where services will be at 1030 am Saturday. The Rev. James P. McKenzie, pastor of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Lorain, will officiate.

Burial will be in Nesbitt Cemetery, Grafton, where VFW Post 3341 will conduct military services.
