Mr. and Mrs. George W. Kirby, 312 1/2 E. German St., observed their first wedding anniversary yesterday by attending services at the First Universalist Church followed with a dinner in the home of her son, Lloyd Cristman, Park Ave.
Mr. Kirby and the former Mrs. Manie Cristman were married Sept. 16, 1950, in the Universalist Church by the Rev. Stanley C. Stall, pastor. The attending couple were Mrs. Maude Cress, a cousin of the bride, and Lloyd Cristman, son of the bride.
The wedding took place on the 65th anniversary of previous marriages for both bride and bridegroom.
In a double ceremony at Little Falls on Sept. 16, 1885, Mr. Kirby married Miss Mary Cristman, and Manie Wires became Mrs. Herman Cristman. Thus, Mr. Kirby's first wife and Mrs. Kirby's first husband were brother and sister. Both died within the past few years.
Mr. Kirby operated an elevator at the H. G. Munger Co. Store for many years, retiring in 1948. Herkimer Evening Telegram, Monday, September 17, 1951

HERKIMER - George William Kirby, 92, who for many holiday seasons won the hearts of hundreds of children through his annual impersonation of Santa Claus in the H. G. Munger Store, where he was also elevator operator for 15 years, died Saturday at his home, 312 E. German St., after a long illness.
Mr. Kirby retired from Munger's in 1948. He had previously worked at the West Canada Lumber Co.; Herkimer Fibre Co.; and Standard Furniture Co. He had also operated several farms in this area.
He was born April 17. 1864, in Herkimer, a son of William and Rosalia Hall Kirby.
On Sept. 16, 1885, he married Mary Cristman, Middleville Rd., at Little Falls, in a double ring ceremony with her brother, Herman Cristman, who married Miss Manie Wires.
His first wife died on Sept. 25, 1948. On Sept. 16, 1950, in the Universalist Church, he married Mrs. Manie Cristman, widow of his first wife's brother.
Mr. Kirby was a member of the Universalist Church and Herkimer Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Carl, Herkimer, and Earl, Watertown; a sister, Mrs. Clara Scanlon, Herkimer; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
