"Mr. James Dowdy, after a long illness resulting largely from the infirmities of age, died at the home of his son, Mr. George Dowdy, in this city, on Friday morning last at the advanced age of 77 years. His body was interred in the city cemetery Saturday morning after services conducted by Rev. Mr. Tandy. Mr. Dowdy's wife preceeded him to the grave about a year ago. He is survived by four children, all of whom have reached mature years."
