Sarah Anne Dowdney, one of a Carolinian family of Huguenot descent, and who died June 2, 1888, was married August 10, 1825 to David Alexander Bokee, who was born October 6, 1805, and died suddenly in Washington, D.C., March 15, 1860. His career had opened in Georgetown, South Carolina, where he practiced law, and married, but after his return to Brooklyn, until absorbed by public offices, he was a shipping merchant in South Street. …. He was a State Senator, Member of Congress, Naval Officer, a Trustee of the New York Life Insurance Co.
