Mr. Cleon Hamilton Alexander, 69, of 10008 Old National Pike, Ijamsville, died Monday morning, Dec 14, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Anna Grace "Ann" Kefauver Alexander of Walkersville, whom he married March 22, 1947.

Born June 24, 1918, in Hanover, Pa., he was a son of the late Lewis H. and Sylvia Anders Alexander.

Mr. Alexander had been a member of VFW Post 3285 since 1945. He served as past commander in 1946 and junior vice commander state of Maryland in 1947. He had been a member of the Francis Scott Post 11 American Legion since 1951, and the Rotary Club of Frederick since 1965, where he served as treasurer from 1968 until 1972 and again in 1974. He had later served as assistant treasurer until his death.

Mr. Alexander was presented with the Paul Harris Fellowship award by the Rotary Club of Frederick for outstanding service to the club. He was a member of the Frederick County Fish and Game Association (Camp Kanawah) where he served as treasurer from 1966 until 19o86. He attended public schools in Ohio and Maryland and graduated from Frederick High School Class of 1935. He attended night courses in accounting at the Strayer Business College in Washington, D.C. He was drafter into the U.S. Army September 1941 as a private and following basic training attended Officers Candidate School at Fort Monmouth, N.J., where he received a commission as second lieutenant in 1942.

During World War II, he served in the China, Burma and India theaters. He was discharged from active duty in January 1946 and assigned a reserve grade of captain. February 1946 until July 1948 he was employed at Fort Detrick. In 1948 he was re-activated to active duty with the U.S. Army and remained on active duty for 15 years until December 31, 1963, when he retired as a lieutenant colonel. During this period he served in Japan and Korea. Following his retirement from the military he operated a small non-certified accounting practice in the Frederick area. This same practice is now operated by his nephew, Horace M. Alexander Jr., CPA, and since 1972, Mr. Alexander had continued as a part-time employee of the firm.

Surviving besides his wife is one sister, Mrs. Willard Beall of Frederick; one brother, Kenneth L. "Rusty" Alexander of Hagerstown; several nieces, nephews and one goddaughter, Leslie Ann Eyler of Frederick.

He was preceded by his brother Horace "Buck" Alexander in 1974.

Mr. Alexander is at the Frederick Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey & Son, 1201 N. Market St., where friends may call 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Francis Reinberger and the Rev. Dr. Vincent T. Ross officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens near Frederick.

Mrs. Alexander requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Mr. Alexander to the American Cancer Society, Frederick Unit, 11 W.
