Harold J. Beitzel, 71, of 316 Riverview Dr., Manitowoc, died Saturday afternoon in Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Schneider and Purath Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Theodore Hendricks will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Beitzel was born Feb. 16, 1906, 1906 in Two Rivers, son of the late Bernard and Bertha Weir Beitzel. He attended Two Rivers schools and married Lillian Hansen Oct. 30, 1927 in St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Mr. Beitzel worked for Hotel Williams, Manitowoc, managed the first bus station in Manitowoc for eight and ½ years and operated a tavern for 30 years, retiring in 1969. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, the Seagulls and served on its board of directors, member of Eagles club and Braille Club, member and past secretary of the Tavern League and served on the Manitowoc Co. Board as a supervisor. He was a 300 bowler and member of the Manitowoc County Bowling Association. Mr. and Mrs. Beitzel celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Oct. 30, 1977.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Corrine Beitzel and James and Pauline Beitzel of Manitowoc; five brothers, Frank, Archie, Claude and Robert of Two Rivers and Roland of Arizona; seven sisters, Gertrude Whitman of Kaukauna, Mrs. Earl (Helen) Kuffel of Manitowoc, Mrs. John (Dolores) Hoffman of Manitowoc, Mrs. Louis(Genevieve) Melchoir, Mrs. Kenneth (Norma) Lesperance and Mrs. Russell (Katherine) Shambeau of Two Rivers and Mrs. Karl (Salley) Oestreich of Appleton; nine grandchildren and a great grandchild. A brother, Peter preceded her in death.
Friends may call in Schneider and Purath Funeral Home 4 o'clock to 9 o'clock this Monday afternoon where a prayer service will be at 7:30 o'clock by members of the parish and Daughters of Isabella.
