Private James Hall, along with Privates Thomas Smith and Patrick Gray, was one of the first three British soldiers to be killed in the American Revolution. All of the above were in the Light Company (ie, skirmishers) of the 4th Infantry Regiment. The company had passed through Lexington and were at one end of the North Bridge at Concord when they were fired upon by the Concord Militia. Two of the privates died instantly and the third fell mortally wounded. The two who died instantly were buried at the bridge, the third was carried to the town of Concord where he died and was buried. It is not definitively known which two were buried at the bridge and who was buried in the town. The British lost 73 men killed in the retreat back to Boston (bio by Dan Benau).
