Don was first married to Marilyn Rose Redmon on February 16, 1951 in Kansas City. They had two children.
Donald married his second wife Jawana on January 9, 1961 in Leavenworth, Kansas. They had one daughter and Jawana had three children by her previous marriage. They had been married 46 years at the time of Don's death. In addition to his wife and children, Don is survived by ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U. S. Marine Corps. Don was an Eagle Scout in the Mic-O-Say Tribe and a Boy Scouts of America troop leader, Troop 265. Since his retirement, Don volunteered with the Shepherd's Center, Raytown Historical Society, and the Democratic Party.
