Veteran, WWII, U.S. Coast Guard. Served 30 Apr 1942 - 12 Dec 1945, rate & rank unknown. He was born 'Joseph Francis Pisarcik', in PA. At some point in the late 1940's he, and his father, changed the surname to 'Writer'. The original surname 'Pisarcik' is of Czech/Slovakian origin and basically means 'Clerk or Scribe'.
