Born in Hammond and a resident of Baton Rouge for more than 50 years, she worked for many years at the LSU Bookstore where she enjoyed interacting with the students. After retiring she was a volunteer for the Baton Rouge Council on Aging. She died Monday, June 14, 1999, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. She was 84. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Religious services at the funeral home chapel at 11:30 a.m. Saturday,conducted by the Rev. Maynard Hurst. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Boyd and husband Dennis of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Ronnie Sherman, Hammond, and Ray Sherman, Prairieville; numerousnieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, John H. Chambers; an infant son, John H. Chambers; a special nephew, Dennis Guillaume; and eight sisters and brothers.
