Professional Football Player. For nine seasons (1960 to 1968), he played at the defensive end, guard, defensive tackle and tackle positions in the National and American Football Leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals, Buffalo Bills and San Diego Chargers. Born Thomas Frederick Day, he attended Phelps Career High School in Washington, DC and played collegiate football at North Carolina A&T State University. He achieved All-Conference status as a two-way lineman and additionally was a member of the track team. During his college years, Day became close friends with Al Attles who went onto become an accomplished NBA player and coach. Selected by the Cardinals during the 20th round of the 1960 NFL Draft, he appeared in 117 regular season games. During his years with Buffalo, he was a key contributor to two consecutive AFL championships (1964 and 1965) and individually distinguished himself as he earned Pro-Bowl honors in 1965. After his retirement from football, Day remained in the Buffalo-area and served as a school teacher and youth counselor.
