Mrs. Amanda Tipton Dead
Mrs. Amanda Jane Tipton died last night at her home, 301 South Cottonwood.
Mrs. Tipton's maiden name was Amanda Jane Bowers. She was born March 10, 1846 in Elizabethtown, Tenn. She was married September 15, 1861 to John W. Tipton and in 1879 Mr. and Mrs. Tipton came to Kansas, locating in Waverly. They moved to Emporia in 1880, where Mr. Tipton died in 1919.
Mrs. Tipton is survived by several children, D. S. S. Tipton, Dr. W. B. Tipton, Mrs. C. F. Roe and Mrs. D. S. Van Cleave, of Emporia; Mrs. W. E. Parson, of Lawrence; Mrs. C. E. Miles, Kansas City; and Mrs. Robert Mitchell, Savannah, Ga.
Four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Bowers, of Wichita; Mrs. Hettie Crow, Mrs. Alec Lacy and Mrs. Henry Bowers, of Tennessee; and two brothers, David L. Bowers, of Marysville, Tenn., and Daniel Bowers, of Watanga Valley, also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the home, 301 South Cottonwood. Rev. J. H. J. Rice, pastor of the First Congregational church, will conduct the services. Interment will be in Maplewood cemetery.
