OBITUARIES:

Dewey Mershon, who had lived in Stafford for 70 years, died in the early morning today, Thursday. He was found by his brother Willie, who lives in Pratt and who visited Dewey regularly on Sundays and Thursdays.

Mr. Mershon had been seen by friends down town Wednesday evening so, although he had not been in too good health for some time, he had been apparently feeling all right until the time he retired Wednesday night.

He was born in Vermont, Ill., Dec. 14, 1879. Surviving him are a sister, Mrs. Ruby Cantrall of Springfield, Ill., and his brother, Willie, of Pratt.

As the Courier went to press arrangements for funeral services had not been announced yet.

Henry Dewey Mershon was born in Vermont, Ill., Dec. 14, 1879, to W. F. and Luella Mershon.

It was the Mershon family who operated the first furniture store in Stafford selling it later to S. F. Peacock. They then entered the general mercantile business with the store being located where the Ritz Theatre is now located. Following the father's death in 1913 this business was closed and Dewey and his brother Willie J. spent a number of years farming together.

Mrs. W. F. Mershon, the mother preceded her son in death in 1935. He then lived with his sister, Ruth, well-known teacher in the Stafford schools for many years, in the family home at 218 W. Broadway. His sister died in 1948 and since that time he has lived alone, renting rooms at times in the house to school teachers.

He was also preceded in death by another sister, Mrs. Rosa Van Lehn, of La Junta, Colo., and a brother, Roscoe Mershon, of Whittier, Calif.

Relatives who were here for the services Monday were a brother, W. J. Mershon, and Mrs. Mershon of Pratt, a sister, Ruby Cantrall of Springfield, Ill.; a nephew, L. V. Mershon, and Mrs. Mershon of Wichita; a nephew, Donald Mershon, and Mrs. Mershon of Wichita; a nephew, Randolph Van Lehn of La Junta, Colo.; a nephew Young Cantrall, and Mrs. Cantrall of Sterling, Ill.; a niece, Mrs. Ruth Kuizin, of Springfield, Ill., a niece, Mrs. Jack Cobb, of Springfield, Ill.
