Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona, May 11, 1935:

A resident of Arizona before Abraham Lincoln freed the staves, even before the close of the Civil War, Mrs. Nettie Jane Barnum died early yesterday morning in the family borne at 1007 East Polk street. She was 86 years old. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park. A native of Kentucky, Mrs. Barnum came to Arizona as a child with her parents, 77 years ago. The Barnums first settled in Prescott. Sixty-five years ago, Mrs. Barnum moved to Phoenix where she since had resided. She witnessed the building of a modern city from a straggling desert town. Surviving are five sons, E. N., J.R., L. H. and L.B. Barnum of Phoenix, and W, H. Barnum of San Antonio. Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Hattie E. Barnett of Phoenix and Mrs. Lola Kline of California; a brother. Neri F. Osborn,Phoenix, and two sisters, Mrs. Rose Copeland and Mrs. Sadie Kramer, residing in California.
