Man Fatally Shoots Wife "Accidentally"
MELDRIM - A man shot his wife with a .22 caliber target pistol at their home here Sunday morning according to Effingham County Sheriff H. O. Carr.
Mrs. Ann Warren Beasley, 31, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Her husband, W. W. Beasley, was "pranking" when the fatal shot was fired, the sheriff said witnesses told him.
Sheriff Carr said he was told Beasley did not know the pistol was loaded.
No further action is anticipated, the sheriff said, until the medical examiner's report is completed. A coroner's jury may be summoned later, he added.
Mrs. Beasley, a native of Fulton County, had lived here for several years. She was a member of Faith Primitive Baptist Church, Savannah.
Other survivors include a stepson, Jerry Beasley, and a sister, Miss Lillian Warren, Atlanta.
Fountain Funeral Home of Port Wentworth has charge of arrangements.
