John Q. A. Peter, who would have been 91 years old today (Friday), died at his home in Rossville at 4:45 last Saturday afternoon. He had been ill for only three weeks preceding his death.

The oldest resident in Rossville, he was born in Clinton county, Indiana, on April 19, 1855, to Reuben and Leah Peter, and lived all of his life in Rossville with the exception of six years spent in Lincoln, Neb.

He was married to Mary Orilla Gunkle on Aug. 20, 1882, who survives along with ten children. They are: five sons, Chester of Mulberry, William, Delbert and Maurice of Rossville and Clarence of Peoria, Ill.; five daughters, Mrs. Bessie Haslet, Mrs. Jessie Kemper, Mrs. Leila Kinzer and Mrs. Mable Steward, all of Rossville, and Mrs. Ruth Thompson of Darlington. Also, there are 27 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Last rites were held in the Rossville Methodist church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with the Rev. E. Richard Haley officiating. Burial was in the Rossville cemetery.
