DEATH IN THE PRISON

Timothy Muldowney Expires Suddenly

FORMER SUNDUSKIAN

Came Back Sunday Night and Applied for Lodging- Was To Be Taken To The Infirmary. Without so much as a chance to say goodbye, Timothy Muldowney, a resident of Cleveland, though formerly of this city, died in the Central Police station at 5 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon. The end was wholly unexpected, but was due to natural causes, probably the result of heart failure. About midnight Sunday, Muldowney, who was well known to the police, appeared at the Central police station. He was sick and wanted a place to sleep. He had come down from Cleveland and being without money, his only relative here, a brother, in the infirmary. "Tim" as he was called, was given accommodations as a lodger, and on Monday morning, it was seen that his condition was bad. Dr. Parker was called and found that the man was suffering from pnuemonia. He also found that there were other chronic illnesses a lung trouble and dropsy, and this complicated condition was serious. Dr. Parker decided that the man must be taken to the infirmary, and after consulting with the officials arrangements were made. About 5 o'clock in the afternoon, Superintendent Irvine arrived with his carriage. George Dean, the acting turnkey, went out and secured a cup of milk for the sick man, which he drank with apparent relish. Then he stooped over and put on his shoes. Pete Schwein, a prisoner in the corridor, started to assist him in putting on his coat, when Muldowney suddenly gave a little gasp and fell down into Schwein's arms. "It's no use, Mr. Irvine, he's dead," said Schwein. Dr. Parker was again called and found that life was extinct. The body was turned over to Undertaker Andres. Muldowney was a man about 40 years of age. He was born and raised in this city, and his father, Thomas Muldowney, was one time Marshal of this city. With his mother, he lived in Cleveland, where he also had one brother, a conductor, on the Lake Shore railroad. One brother Thomas, is in the Erie county infirmary.
