Roy Filmore Nelson was born on January 5, 1924 in Iowa, the third child of Roy Filmore Nelson, Sr. (age 31) and Vera Nancy Jane Hanks (age 21). He joined the military on December 19, 1941 to fight in World War II. Roy Filmore married Maralyn Ruth Kersten in 1942 when he was 18 and had four children with her. He died on May 15, 1983 in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, USA when he was 59.
