Died Jan 26, 1916 at Victoria, British Columbia, Lt-Col Alfred Codd, aged 73. Military funeral, Ross Bay cemetery. Jan 28, 7 - photo Veteran of Red River and North West Rebellions. native of Letheringsett, Norfolk, England, b 19 March 1843. He came to Canada as a boy and graduated in medicine from McGill, 2 years later being gazetted as surgeon to Ottawa Brigade of Garrison Artillery. In 1870 he was appointed surgeon to 1st Battery of Ontario Rifles, which took part in Red River uprising. In 1878 he became recruiting medical officer to Royal North West Mounted Police, and in 1885 served through North West Rebellion under Sir Frederick Middleton. He held medals for his services at Fish Creek, while he also participated in the fighting at Batoche. He subsequently was promoted to the rank of Sgn-Lt-Col and in 1906 he retired on a life pension.
He was married in 1868 to Miss Elizabeth Turner Bradley, of a distinguished military family, and came to Victoria 8 years ago. Besides his widow, he is survived by a son and 2 daughters. Son is Staff-Capt Selby A Codd, Canadian Pay office, while daughters are Mrs H F Anderson, Winnipeg, Mrs F C Dunlop, Minneapolis.
Funeral, full military honors. 5th Regiment, Canadian Garrison Artillery, will supply the gun carriage, 11th Canadian Mounted Rifles the horses and drivers, 88th Victoria Fusiliers the firing party of 100 men and an officer, and an escort of 100 men and an officer. Several other officers of the Battery will attend. Brass bands of 67th Battery and 88th Battery will attend, while 67th will also provide a double co. An escort of 50 men with an officer will represent 11th Canadian Mounted Rifles. Jan 29, 7 - funeral,. Pallbearers: Lt-Col Angus, officer commanding 5th Reg; Lt-Col Tooley, District paymaster; Majs Moore, District Staff Adj; Christie, 67th Battery; Harbottle, 67th, and McMillan, 11th Canadian Mounted Rifles.
