T. Robert Bieler, 76, husband of Ruth S. (Schlichter) Bieler, of Church Road, East Greenville, died March 26, 2008 in Pennsburg Manor Nursing Home after an illness. He and his wife were married 51 years in November. Born in East Greenville, he was a son of the late Frederick W. and Emma (Freed) Bieler. He was a partner with his brother at the former Bieler Insurance Agency in East Greenville for 25 years, retiring in 1996. After retiring he was a funeral director's assistant at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville for 10 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a 1948 graduate of East Greenville High School and attended Northampton Community College. He was a lifelong member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, East Greenville, where he was a former deacon, elder and consistory president of the church. He was an avid golfer, bowler and baseball player participating in the Upper Perk Senior Golf League, the East Greenville Fire Company Bowling League, the American Legion Bowling League and was a pitcher for the Eagle AA Softball Team. Surviving along with his wife, are a daughter, Audrey N. Bieler, fiancee of Jeffrey R. Davis Jr. of Macungie; three sisters, Myrtle Gronert of Midvale, Utah, Frances, wife of Walter Jarman of Milford, Del., and Naomi Kutsch of Salisbury, Md.; and two brothers, Willard Bieler and his wife, Bonnie of Salisbury, Md., and Charles Bieler and his wife, Judy of San Diego, Calif. He was predeceased by two brothers, Russell and Frederick Bieler and a sister, Arlene Shiffert. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, 1070 Church Road, East Greenville, with the Rev. Dr. Deborah Rahn Clemens officiating. Interment is in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to New Goshenhoppen UCC Memorial Fund or to Alzheimer's Disease Research, P O Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD 20871-1950. The Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville is in charge of the arrangements.
