George H. Thompson, 83, formerly of the town of Rockland, Manitowoc County, died Sunday morning at Maple Crest Convalescent Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran church, Valders. The Rev. Robert Onkka will officiate and burial will be in Our Saviors Cemetery, Valders.
Mr. Thompson was born Sept. 2, 1883 in the Town of Rockland, son of the late Edwin and Anna Aubol Thompson. He married Anna Snortum June 20, 1906 and the couple farmed in the Town of Rockland. She died in 1955.
Mr. Thompson served from 1944 – 1957 on the board of directors of Reedsville Cooperative and was secretary from 1946-1956 of the co-op. A lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church, he was active for many years in church affairs.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. William (Clarine) Dayton of Germantown, Mrs. John (Selma) Reichert of LaGrange, Ill., and Mrs. Henry (Florence) Pleuss of Manitowoc; three sons, Norman of Manitowoc, Stanley of Germantown and George E. of Menasha; a sister, Mrs. Berphine Hammer of Valders; two brothers, Ruel of Valders and Anders of Sheboygan; 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A son, Edwin, three sisters and five brothers preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Reedsville Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday when the casket will be moved to the church where the body will lie in state from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
