Arnold Torrison, nine-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Torrison, died at the family home at Quarry yesterday and the funeral will be held Thursday afternoon.
The boy had not been in robust health for a long time.
Manitowoc Herald News, Tuesday, August 28, 1923 P. 4
At age fifteen, Hartley was with his cousin Melvin Thompson, in Knute Thompson's family barn on the west side of the Manitowoc River. They were working on Melvin's aeroplane, when Hartley was told that Arnold, his nine year old brother, was dying. Wanting to get home as soon as possible, Hartley swam across the river rather than take the longer way by running up to the bridge. He just wanted to be home for his mother and dying brother.
