Leone (Hulsebus) Beermann (1914 - 1989)

Leone Beermann was born at Defiance, Ia., April 21, 1914, the daughter of Peter and Floy Maxwell Hulsebus. She was raised in the Defiance area where she was baptized n 1915 at the Evangelical Church. She received her education there, graduating from the Defiance High School with the class of 1932.

On Feb. 6, 1940, Leone was united in marriage with Walter H. Beermann at Denison. This union was blessed with four children, Robert, Carol, Ronald and Deborah. Walter and Leone farmed together in Crawford County for almost 49 years. They moved to their present farm home ten miles south of Denison in 1945 where she resided until her death. Leone was an avid gardener and her beautiful flower gardens were well known throughout Crawford County.

Leone died late Wednesday, Jan. 4, 1989, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Neb., where she had been hospitalized the past seven weeks. At the time of her death she had reached the age of 74 years, eight months and 13 days. Leone was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison where she was confirmed in 1953.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Nellie Jensen and one brother, Faye Hulsebus.

Survivors are her husband, Walter H. Beermann of rural Denison; four children: Robert Beermann and wife, Gail of Norwalk, Carol and husband, John Janssen of Mingo, Ronald Beermann of Castle Rock, Colo., and Deborah Beermann and husband, David Van Dusseldorp of Iowa City; two grandsons, Timothy and Daniel Beermann of Norfolk; three grand-daughters, Michelle Beermann of Norfolk, and Katharine and Sarah Van Dusseldorp of Iowa City; and two sisters, Maye Campbell of Yetter and LaVerne Marshall of Stanton. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser officiating. Vocal selections for the service included Henry Henningsen signing "Beautiful Savior" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," and the congregation singing "Rock Of Ages." Karen Kahl served as organist for the services. Pallbearers included sons-in-laws, John Janssen and David Van Dusseldorp; grandsons, Timothy and Daniel Beermann; and nephews, Dan Campbell and Ray Beckman. Interment was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements
