David Philip Bridger
The death of David Phillip Bridger, a highly respected resident of this.village, occurred at 3:45 o'clock Thursday
afternoon of last week at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital. He had been ill since March 12th and ten weeks, ago
underwent a serious operation following which his decline has been steady. Mr. Bridger was born July 6th, 1855,
in Rensselaer, the son of William and Mary (Newkirk) Bridger. For thirty years he lived in East Springfield and
was farm Superintendent of the extensive land holdings of the late George Hyde Clarke of Hyde hall, at the head
of Otsego Lake. Eighteen years ago he came to .Cooperstown to live and for seventeen years, up to the time of his
last illness, was employed at the Iroquois farm of F. Ambrose Clark. October 1st, 1880, he was.married to Miss
Fannie Jones of Middlefield.
Surviving are his wife; four sons, William of Ilion, Floyd and Harry Bridger of Cooperstown, and Orlando
Bridger of Middlefield; two daughters. Mrs. John Lee of Bowerstown, and Mrs. Lynn Vandeboe of Schenectady;
three brothers, William, Jacob and Samuel Bridger, all of Cooperstown ; one sister, Mrs. William Irish of Cherry
Valley; thirty-one grandchildren and three great grandchildrenThe funeral was held Sunday, the 81st anniversary of his birth, at 2 O'clock from the funeral chapel of Brown & Tillapaugh. The Rev. H. M. Pease, pastor of the Cooperstown First Baptist,
church officiated, and interment was made in the family plot of the Springfield Center cemetery.
