Jeannette's mother and Even Johnson were married Feb. 24, 1898 and Even adopted Jeannette. She married Leland Follett on Dec. 25, 1914 in Moorhead, MN and they later had two children: Robert and Janice. Her husband Leland "Lee" gave her the nickname Birdie, and she went by the nickname the remainder of her life.
Jeannette attended Moorhead State Teachers College and taught at a school in Minnesota for a time. But after her marriage, they lived in Fargo, ND and she raised the children there.
After Lee retired, the couple took many trips to the south and southwest in the winters, which Birdie enjoyed very much. It was on one of these trips, that she was struck with a sudden heart attack upon leaving a restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona. She died at the age of 71.
