The son of Otto and Letha May (Haynes) Stanley, he was born in western Harper County on his grandparent's - Larkin and Catherine Haynes - homestead.
He graduated from Gate High School in Gate, OK with the class of 1927. In the fall of 1927 he enrolled at OPSU (then Panhandle A & M College). After five weeks of schooling he returned home to farm until well after "retirement". After retiring and moving to Guymon in 1971 he pursued his other passion which was horses. He became a cowboy, working at local livestock auctions.
Along with being a farmer in Harper and Beaver Counties, he raised horses and was an avid fan of good horse flesh, a long-time member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Texas County Sheriff's Posse.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Delma and Loureta, and a still-born son, Harold Victor. He was survived by his three children and their families, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a brother and many other relatives and friends.
