York today arranging for his funeral
at 11:90 a. m. tomorrow in
Riwrskie Memorial Chapel. New
York
Mr. Lewi's friend. Or Samuel H.
Goldenson of Temple Emanu-El,
New York, also a former Albanian,
will officiate. The burial will be to
Salem Field* Cemetery. Brooklyn.

agent during the humorist's
tour through New England.
Son of Dr. Joseph Lewi, prominent
physician, Mr. Lewi was a
graduate of Albany Academy and
was initiated to news-gathering on
the old Albany Morning Express.
Later he became a correspondent
for the Albany Argus, writing
weekly news letters from wherever

Joined New York Tribune
In 1891, he made his home permanently
to New York, joined the staff
of The New York Tribune. He began
aa a reporter and then became
special writer, copy editor and a
contributor to the editorial page.
At the outbreak of the Spanish
American War to 18M, Mr. Lewi
Was sent as correspondent to report
miltary preparations. Sixteen years
later, he was in Austria at the beginning
of the World War. reported
the mobilisation of the Austrian
army and wrote numerous dispatches
about the plight of Americans
who were stranded in Austria.
In his late 60s Mr. Lewi retired
from active newspaper work. His
contributions became more and
more Infrequent. Until death, however,
he never severed his connection
with The Herald Tribune staff
near gaye up his mail box in the
editorial room.
Cast Votes Early
« Last election. Mr. Lewi set an example
for .• voters when he was
among the first persons in New
York to cast his ballot. Deeply concerned
with the interests of Jewry,
he published "The New Era," a
monthly magazine devoted to Judaism,
until recently.
Mr. Lewi married Mrs. Emita
Wolff May in 1903. She died in
1931
He is survived by four brothers
and three sisters of the family of
14 children of which he was the
oldest. The brothers are Dr.
Maurice J. Lewi of New York,
Franklin L. Lewi of Newark, Theodore
Lewi. Saratoga Springs
pharmacist, and Dr. William G.
Lewi of New York. The sisters are
Miss Alice Lewi of Albany, Mrs.
Silas Cohen of Schenectady and
Mrs. M. A Oulick of New York. Dr
J. A. Bendell of Albany is a nephew
and Miss Berta S. Bendell of Albany
